Power Swing

Some of the faults are transient and there's no essential to functions the distance relays or to trip circuit breakers. These transients are categorized as power swing which is shown in the figure. Some conditions should be verified to spot power swings that are itemized below:

1. No earth fault revealing (absence of zero sequence current)
2. No phase-phase fault (absence of negative sequence current)
3. Change in ohmic resistance (Impedance) with time is three-phase and fewer than some setting value (ΔR and ΔX).
